How to Choose the Right Boudoir Photographer in Toronto or Hamilton
So… you’re considering a boudoir session, but you’re stuck on who to choose!!! No worries, I’ve got you. ;) In this blog, we’ll go over several factors you should be considering when choosing a boudoir photographer.
#1: Location
There are so many wonderful boudoir photographers in Ontario. When deliberating, think about how far you’re willing to transit/drive! I’ve had people book with me who were from the U.S. and decided to make a trip of it! (THAT SOUNDS SO INSANE TO ACTUALLY WRITE, I AM SO, SO LUCKY!) And I’ve also had people book who were a 10 minute drive away! Convenience may be something important to you, so make sure to weigh your options.
I shoot out of Hamilton and Toronto, ON. Why?! I started my business in Hamilton, as that’s where I grew up and lived most of my life! Last year I moved to Toronto to expand my creative opportunities, but I still have SO many clients wanting to book in Hamilton - and who am I to say no!? (Plus it’s a great excuse to see my family/friends!!) If you’re looking for studio options I shoot out of, head over here.
#2: Editing Style
Boudoir photographers may differ in their editing styles! Some shoot light and bright, some a moodier/darker look, and some more of a studio/editorial vibe.
I tend to edit for moodier/a bit warmer depending on the studio, as that is my preference! However - if we’re shooting somewhere like East Side in Toronto, the photos will be more true to life in the edit. You can take a look at my portfolio here, or over on my instagram here!
#3: Personality
Getting naked with a stranger is super vulnerable! You’re going to want to choose someone you feel confident will be able to guide you and make you feel comfy in front of the camera. Take a look through your boudoir photographer’s website and/or social media and you’ll quickly see how much care and attention they put towards client experience.
I care a GREAT deal about making sure my clients feel comfortable before, during, and after their boudoir session - this is such a special experience, and you deserve someone who is going to guide, direct, encourage, and hype you up when you need it. (Das me!!!!)
#4: Investment
This section can be a little touchy feely, but I want to be transparent with you!!! Boudoir can range from a lower investment ($100-200), to thousands of dollars. The lower the investment, the higher the potential for low quality images, poor experience, and an inexperienced photographer. The higher the investment, the more likely you’ll receive great quality images, excellent experience, and an experienced photographer. HOWEVER!!! These are not always mutually exclusive! Again - do your research and consider the above factors, then also take into account how much you’re willing to invest in your experience.
My boudoir packages generally include professional makeup application, access to a private studio, 6 years of boudoir experience, professionally edited images, polaroids and sometimes albums - these are all things I factor into my pricing. I like to think I price myself as affordably as possible while also valuing my time and effort.
Conclusion
There are a few things you can take a look at to compare and contrast when researching for your boudoir photographer. In the end, I like to wittle it down to 4 things: location, editing style, personality and investment. If you are looking for a boudoir photographer in Toronto or Hamilton, who edits on the moodier side whilst also being able to edit true to life, who cares about your comfort and experience, and also is as transparent as possible with pricing… I’d love to be your boudoir photographer! <3
